Add an extremely charming, rare and film-proven icon of European microcar history to your collection with this beautifully shaped Velam Isetta from 1957. Although the Isetta became world-famous under the flag of the German BMW, this specific model represents the sought-after French licensed build. Produced by VELAM, which stands for Vehicule Leger a Moteur (light vehicle with engine), this is an absolute must-have for lovers of legendary microcars, French automobilia and die-cast collectibles.
Rare French licensed build and legendary film history
The French manufacturer VELAM built these striking microcars under licence from the Italian ISO between 1955 and 1959, with a total historical production run of only 5,000 examples. Powered by a compact 236 cc engine, this innovative 'bubble car' managed to reach a top speed of well over 80 km/h (50 mph). The unique and futuristic design did not go unnoticed; the Velam Isetta shone prominently on the silver screen in the world-famous Hollywood film Funny Face (1957) with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire, and in the French film classic Adieu Philippine (1962). This model brings that rich culture and automotive history perfectly to life.
Refined die-cast quality by DeAgostini
This miniature vehicle is made with great eye for detail from a robust and high-quality combination of cast metal (die-cast) and fine plastic parts. DeAgostini has captured the characteristic, egg-shaped body lines, the fabric open folding roof and the iconic front-opening door with great sharpness. The model immediately stands out thanks to the authentic, nostalgic cream lacquer that fits perfectly with the atmosphere of the late 1950s. The vehicle is built exactly on the popular 1:43 collector scale and is in absolute brand-new condition.
