Karl von Drais and the Invention of the Bicycle
In 1817, the German inventor Karl von Drais introduced the Laufmaschine, also known as the Draisine or running machine. This groundbreaking vehicle had two wheels in a line and was propelled by the rider pushing off the ground with their feet. Although the device was simple, it marked the beginning of the development that would eventually lead to the modern bicycle. Von Drais developed his invention in response to the eruption of Mount Tambora in 1815, which caused a summer without sun and killed the horses. His innovation changed mobility forever.

Each thimble is carefully crafted and forms a beautiful homage to the very first two-wheeled vehicle.
