Maurice Farman MF.7 Longhorn

The Maurice Farman MF.7 Longhorn is a French biplane designed by Maurice Farman and his brother Richard Farman. The aircraft made its first flight in 1913 and quickly became one of the most widely used military aircraft at the beginning of World War I. The nickname Longhorn was given because of the aircrafts distinctive long nose that extended well forward of the cockpit.

A Pioneer in Military Aviation

The MF.7 was deployed as a reconnaissance aircraft and light bomber on the Western Front. It was one of the first French aircraft used for strategic reconnaissance over enemy territory. Its biplane design offered stability and reliability, although it was gradually outpaced by faster designs. Nevertheless, the Longhorn played an important role in the early years of the war and laid the groundwork for later Farman designs that followed.
